Cataracts and Cataract Surgery
A cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye. Just like the lens of a camera, if the lens of the eye is cloudy, the eye cannot take a clear picture. This clouding of the lens often happens over many years. In the early stages, a change in your glasses prescription can help counter the effect. However, eventually, you may need cataract surgery.
At Eye Physicians and Surgeons, we believe in staying at the forefront of advancements in medical and surgical techniques. We utilize small incision, sutureless, microsurgical techniques to remove your cloudy lens and replace it with a clear artificial lens implant.
Your surgery is done as an outpatient at one of our surgical facilities. We offer the latest in lens implant technology, including astigmatism correction and mutlifocal lens technology. We also offer surgery using the Ora System from Alcon at the Iowa City location. This system allows us to perform intraoperative measurements to potentially improve the implant lens selection and achieve a better refractive outcome.
Recently, Dr. Cohen became the first surgeon in the state of Iowa to use the new Activefocus IQ ReSTOR +2.5 D multifocal astigmatism correcting lens available from Alcon!
